gutter inspection
a crucial part of the home, gutter.

Gutter repair and installation

We’re not going to claim that gutter inspections are the most glamorous aspect of our business. But they are a vital one. And now’s the time to schedule an inspection for when the weather warms up again.

The fact is winter can do a number on your gutters. And failing gutters can do a number—like significant repair bills—on your house.

Iconic Roofing & Exteriors can certainly do that kind of repair work—fixing damaged gutters, exterior siding, repairing leaking windows, and rehabilitating failing roofs. But before things get that far gone, why not let us ensure that water is moving away from your house like it’s supposed to—before the damage is done. Our teams work throughout the greater Philly region out of our headquarters in New Castle, Delaware. We’ll be ready to see what winter’s done to your gutters this spring.

One of the primary enemies in our area to a home’s exterior is the freeze-thaw cycle. When wet, water flows where it can—into cracks and nail holes, behind siding, and under roof shingles—and then expands as it freezes. Over and over during the course of a winter. This same wear-and-tear happens to gutters, which can lead to cracks or a weakening of the hardware that holds them to your house. Such issues will only worsen over time, so discovering them as soon as possible is vital.

Winter storms also tend to leave debris in gutters that, if not cleaned out, will eventually create dams that divert water to the places you don’t want it to go. The sooner they’re cleaned out, the better.

This is important because spring and summer will bring heavy rains that will easily overwhelm a home drainage system that is clogged. In fact, given the realities of climate change and the more intense “historic” rainstorms that are now becoming the new normal, a gutter inspection is also a good time to measure the capability of your system. It’s a perfect time to add capacity and make sure your gutters and downspouts are ready to handle the new reality.

Having the system work better because it’s not plugged with gunk is not the only good reason to inspect things in the early spring. It’s also the season when the bugs come out after sleeping through the winter. And the first thing they look for is something to eat and somewhere to set up shop. Gutters full of all the decaying leaves, twigs, and pollen that piled up in the fall and winter are a pretty enticing place for many pests. This includes termites—which might keep right on moving towards your house once they get through the hors d’oeuvres they found in the gutters. Mold and mildew can also set up shop in this environment.

A gutter inspection and repair by Iconic Roofing & Exteriors will ensure several things. You will be able to rest assured that debris will be removed, pests and critters made unwelcome, underlying structural issues understood, needed repairs noted, the overall capacity of the system measured, and any related issues—such as roof damage or siding degradation—discovered. Plan now to make sure summer is not full of any surprises.
